The Shorthorn Article

Mako (f/k/a Virginia Kay Herald), 44, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on October 12, 2013, after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 am October 19, 2013, at The Vine Fellowship, 5229 Kelly Elliott Road, Arlington, Texas.

Mako was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on March 17, 1969. She graduated from Camden County High School in St. Marys, Georgia, in 1987. Mako worked as the Library Mailroom Supervisor at the University of Texas at Arlington. Raised as a military dependent, she resided in several states but always said that someday she would live in Texas to be near her beloved Dallas Cowboys. She took great pride in her part-time employment at Cowboy Stadium. She enjoyed playing softball and football. She also donated her hair to Locks of Love and fostered a dog for an animal rescue organization.

Mako is survived by her parents John and Cheryl Herald of St. Marys, Georgia; her twin sister Lucinda Hubbard, her husband Jonathan, and their two sons and two daughters of Auburn, Georgia; and her sister Johnetta Waller, her husband William and their two sons of Albany, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Mako Animal Rescue Fund at Mercy Animal Clinic, 7030 N. Shiloh Rd., Suite160, Garland, Texas 75044; or to Community Hospice of Texas, Inpatient Services at Arlington Memorial Hospital, 6100 Western Place, Suite 500 Fort Worth, Texas 76107. The family of Mako wishes to thank “Team Mako” for all their love and support during this difficult time.
