Guest Borrowers

Overview

"Guest Borrowers" are people who are not current University students, staff or faculty, but who have privileges at the UT Arlington Libraries through special arrangements.  You can download and complete the Library Card Application here

Guest Borrowers can:

  • Have up to 5 items checked out at one time
  • Check out books for 21 days
  • Check out some special materials
  • Renew materials 2 times for 21 days each time, unless an item has been recalled for another user
  • Renew materials by telephone, fax, email or at any of the Libraries' Service Desks

Guest Borrowers cannot:

  • check out current or bound periodicals
  • use the UT Arlington Libraries' Interlibrary Loan Services
  • access the Libraries' online databases from off campus
  • use the Digital Media Studio

Types of Guest Borrowers

 

Academic Borrowers

  • Retired UT Arlington Faculty
  • Faculty, Staff, and Students at member libraries of TexShare  - If your college, university or public library is a member of TexShare, you can get a UT Arlington Libraries card. Get a TexShare Card from your home library. Bring your TexShare Card with a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk. Your UT Arlington Libraries Card will be valid for the length of time designated by your home institution. 
  • Faculty at member libraries of the OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program - Get an OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program Card from your home library. Bring this card and a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk. Your UT Arlington Libraries Card will be valid through the end of the current academic year.
  • Students enrolled in the UT Arlington Intensive English Program 
  • Students and teachers participating in the K12 Connections program - Students under the age of 18 wishing to get a library card need to present a completed Parental Consent Form (which includes the library card application) to the Central Library Service Desk.  Adults and students over the age of 18 must complete our Library card application and present it to the Central Library Circulation Desk. Proof of school affiliation is required with your application.  Cards are only issued at the Central Library Service Desk. For visiting classes or groups, please request cards one week in advance of the visit to allow adequate processing time. 
  • Students in the Upward Bound program

Courtesy Borrowers

  • Members of the UT Arlington Alumni Association - Bring your current UT Arlington Alumni Association membership card and a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk. Your library card will be valid for the duration of your UT Arlington Alumni Association membership.
  • Members of the Friends of the UT Arlington Library - Bring your Friends of the Library membership and a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk. Your library card will be valid from the date of membership through September 1st.
  • University Associates and Sponsors   
  • Spouses and children of UT Arlington Faculty and Associates of the Faculty
  • Members of the Maverick Parent & Family Association
  • Patrons of Arlington Public Library - Bring your LibraryLiNK card and a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk. Your library card will be vaild for one year.

Personal/Business Borrowers

You may purchase a Guest Borrower's Card for checking out UT Arlington library materials for your personal use.

  • Price: $40 per year, cash and checks only.
  • Available regardless of your place of residence (you do not have to live in Arlington).
  • Your UT Arlington Libraries Card will be valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase.
  • Bring a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk to get a library card.

Businesses may purchase a Corporate Borrower's Card for checking out UT Arlington library materials on behalf of your company.

  • Price: $75 per year for one card, $300 per year for a set of 5 cards, cash and checks only.
  • Your UT Arlington Libraries Card will be valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase.
  • Bring a photo ID to the Central Library Service Desk to get a library card, or have a representative of your company contact the service desk at (817)272-3395, e-mail: library-servdesk@listserv.uta.edu.

Proxy (Authorized) Borrowers

  • Patrons with MavExpress Cards may authorize others to check out library materials for them. If you authorize others to check out materials for you, we will link your account to the MavExpress card of this proxy borrower. You are responsible for all materials, any overdue fines, damage, or replacement costs for all materials checked out on your account by a proxy borrower.
  • Proxy borrowers have the borrowing privileges of the patron they are a proxy borrower for with regard to loan periods and types of items that may be checked out.
  • Arrange to set up a proxy borrower at the Central Library Service Desk or contact us for more information. Your authorized Proxy Borrower will present their own MavExpress Card when checking out materials for you.

Youth Borrowers

Borrowers under the age of 18 must have on file a completed Youth Access Policy and Consent Form. Click here to download form. More information on the Youth Access Policy is available.



Abuse of Library Privileges

The UT Arlington Libraries may suspend the library privileges and block the account of any borrower for the following reasons:

 

  • Failing to adhere to Libraries policies, including following the Libraries' Code of Conduct;
  • Stealing or defacing library materials;
  • Failing to pay library fines.

Failure to return library materials and pay overdue fees may result in further collection procedures by the UT Arlington Business Office.
