How to Borrow Library Materials

Bring the materials you wish to borrow and your library card to the Circulation desk at the Central Library (on the first floor) or the Service Desk either at the Architecture & Fine Arts Library or the Science & Engineering Library.

Library Cards

You need a library card to borrow materials from the UT Arlington Library. There are 2 kinds of library cards:

• Mav ID
  If you are a current or retired faculty member, a staff member, or a student at UT Arlington, your Mav ID is also your library card. The Mav ID must be current and valid.  No other form of ID is accepted for checking out any library materials or group study rooms.
• Guest Card
  Visitors who are not currently enrolled UT Arlington students or currently employed UT Arlington faculty or staff can get a guest library card to borrow items from our collection.   

  You must present your Guest Card along with a photo ID card when you want to borrow materials from the Library.

  
  

  Getting a Free Guest Card

  To get a free Guest Card, go to the Central Library Circulation Desk and present the following:

  1. Completed Library Card Application
  2. Valid photo ID.
  3. Documented proof of one of the following:
     • Current UT Arlington Alumni Association membership
     • Current Friends of the Library membership
     • TexShare Card or LibraryLINK card from a participating institution
     • Proof of student, faculty or librarian status at a Texas K-12 school
     • OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program Card.
  4. If you are under the age of 18, bring a completed Parental Consent Form.

Purchasing a Guest Card

If you do not have one of the affiliations listed above, you can purchase a Guest Card for an annual fee.

To purchase a Guest Card, go to the Central Library Circulation Desk and present the following:

• A completed Library Card Application.
• Valid photo ID.
• $40.00 (cash or checks only)

Your UT Arlington Library Card will be valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase.

Purchasing a Corporate Borrower's Card:

To borrow Library materials on behalf of your company, you should purchase a Corporate Borrower's Card.

To purchase a Corporate Borrower's Card, go to the Central Library Circulation Desk and present the following:

• A completed Library Card Application.
• Valid photo ID.
• $75.00 for one card (cash or checks only). OR
• $300 per year for a set of 5 cards (cash or checks only).

Your UT Arlington Library Card will be valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase.

If You Don't Have a Library Card

If your Mav ID or Guest Card has been lost or stolen, inform the Circulation Desk at any of the libraries immediately so that we can help prevent the unauthorized use of your card. You will need to obtain a new MavID card before you can check out library materials.

If you have come to the Library to check out materials and have inadvertently forgotten to bring your Mav ID or Guest Card with you, we would be happy to hold your items for 24 hours so that you have time to retrieve your library card.
