Happiness: Identifying the Happiest Places on Earth

Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to
create a customized happiness index for each country using environmental
sustainability and economic indicators.
Each participant will have full control over how each indicator impacts
the happiness index. No GIS experience
is required.
Food
Deserts: Access to Quality Food Sources in the Metroplex
March 28, 3 - 5pm

“A food desert is a district in an urban or
rural setting with little or no access to large grocery stores that offer fresh
and affordable foods needed to maintain a healthy diet.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_desert) The workshop will explore how Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) can identify food deserts. No GIS experience is required.
Basic
Python Scripting for ArcGIS
April 18, 3 - 5pm
Python is an intuitive scripting language that
can be used to automate many geoprocessing functions within ArcGIS. Participants will learn the basics of
creating a Python script, become familiar with the native Python environment
IDLE, and learn how to call geoprocessing functions into scripts.
This workshop is designed for those with at least a basic understanding of ArcMap (enrolled in or previously taken an Intro GIS course), but no programming knowledge is required. The workshop is designed specifically for participants brand new to programming.
