Purpose

This is a temporary Library Assistant III position. This position will provide research and information assistance, circulation services to library patrons and services to the UT Arlington community and the community at large for on-site as well as off-site users.

Essential Functions


Handles directional questions and research and informational questions for all users, whether in person, by phone, or e-mail. Acquires and maintains knowledge of reference resources for architecture, fine arts, and allied fields, both print and electronic. Uses the circulation module to charge/discharge library materials to and from patrons, enters and edits patron records, and creates temporary item records. Rotates with staff at the service desk. Assists users with Microsoft applications and information retrieval techniques. Assists users with printer, scanner and copier problems. Provides shelving support when students are not available to keep up with the backlog. Assists with stacks maintenance projects. Assists users with printer, scanner and copier problems. Attends meetings and workshops as required. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Keeps statistics.

Marginal/Incidental Functions

May be asked to work a different night time shift in case of staff absences or vacancies. Serves as backup to the Overnight Services Group Leader in their absence. Other functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. 5 years library related experience, 2 years of which must be at least at the Library Assistant II level. 60 credit hours of college substitute for 1 year of experience; a Bachelors degree substitutes for 2 years of require experience. Good communication and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with the public, staff, and faculty. Standard office equipment and microcomputer proficiency.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of Windows (latest version)/File Management, Integrated Library System (ILS), Content Management, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other programs from Microsoft Office that researchers may be using. Good communication and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with the public, staff, and faculty. Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to public services. Familiar with Internet search engine and evaluation criteria.

Purpose

The Personal Computing Specialist II (PCS-II) is responsible for providing technical support regarding the configuration, installation, maintenance, and repair of computer equipment, software applications, and related peripherals for the University Library.

Essential Functions

Perform specialized diagnostics, maintenance and repair of 400+ microcomputers and related peripheral equipment in six Library facilities on campus. Configure and install microcomputers and related peripheral equipment. Develop, maintain, and deploy system images for Windows and Mac computers using Symantec Ghost, Microsoft SCCM, and JAMF Imaging Suite. Install and upgrade operating systems and application software on microcomputers. Install and support Library-specific software applications such as Voyager clients, ILLiad clients, Citrix clients, and other programs for both staff use and for Library patron use. Configure, install, maintain, and support computers, software, and other technologies for two Library classrooms and for ten group study rooms in the Central Library and in two branch libraries. Perform preventive maintenance on 30+ networked printers. Provide technical support to Library staff members who experience problems with technologies in use in the Library. Respond in a timely manner to helpdesk tickets related to problems with technology throughout the Library system. Maintain documentation related to specialized procedures, applications, or system configurations within the Library Recommend enhancements to the desktop computing environment and investigate implementation methods for such enhancements. Participate in Library Systems activities pertaining to organization, management, task assignment, and strategic planning.

Marginal/Incidental Functions

Other functions as assigned. May supervise student assistants, when available.

Required Qualifications

2 years of course work towards degree in computer related field and 2 years of practical work experience in a computer related field.
