Dare to Be 100 by Walter M. Bortz As a physical educator, my professional goal is to help people, including myself, to live a healthy, happy, independent and long life. This I believe, as does Dr. Bortz, depends on being active both physically and mentally. Dr. Bortz has presented ways we can live such a life. Besides his terrific ideas, my interest in the book stems from its clear, easily read and understood message. It has inspired me to examine the way I live and make many of the changes he suggests which will enable me to live to be 100. I try to convey to my students that the habits that are formed at their age are the ones that will stay with them and determine whether or not they age successfully. As Bortz suggests, the goal should be to LIVE to the day you die. I intend to get this message to my students even more over the next years, maybe even making Dare to Be 100 required reading for my courses. The book would not be considered "great literature" but a book that can provide information enabling people to truly LIVE, and not just exist, all the days of their lives is a great book never the less. -- Pauline Maxwell |
