The Art of War by Sun Tzu Despite its martial title, this book offers each of us a chance to reconcile essence and action. Its philosophical approach to conflict derives from earlier eastern texts including the Way of Life and the I Ching. The insightful lessons described by the book help me evaluate my motives and achieve goals while minimizing strife. As I read and reread the text, the lessons unfold like layers of an onion, and yield insights into human nature. It also helps me to understand that my struggles to maintain balance are echoes of the human condition in all cultures. -- Neal J. Smatresk |
