Guest Computer Account Policy

Overview

While we welcome the use of the UT Arlington Library and its collections by people from the communities in our region, our mission is first to serve the students and faculty of the University. A record increase in student enrollment has significantly increased demand for computers in the Library. In order to ensure that access to computers is available to students and faculty, guest’s time on the computers is limited to two (2) hours per day. This time may not be extended. However, you are welcome to return the following day and request another two (2) hour pass.

Register for a Guest Computer Account

  1. Go to the Welcome Desk at Central Library or the Service Desk in the Science & Engineering Library or Architecture & Fine Arts Library.

    • Guest passwords are issued at Central Library during the following hours:

      Saturday. 9am - 6pm
      Sunday. 10am - 8pm

    • Guest passwords are issued at the Architecture & Fine Arts Library and the Science & Engineering Library during their regularly scheduled hours.

  2. Present a current photo ID -- driver's license, work ID, school ID, etc.

  3. Visitors under the age of 18 need to submit a completed Parental Consent Form. Only one form is needed for each academic year (September-August).

  4. Guest computer accounts are issued immediately, and access will last for two hours with no renewals.

Guidelines for Guest Computer Accounts

  • Guest accounts are limited to two hours a day with no renewals. All guest accounts will deactivate at 12am., whether the two-hour time limit has expired or not.
  • Once the login and password have been issued, you will have 30 minutes to find and log on to a computer, so take care of other library-related tasks before requesting an account.
  • The two hours begin as soon as you log on to a computer.
  • You should use a storage device such as a flash drive if you wish to save your work. These are not available for purchase in the Library.
  • Visitors can buy a Print Card from the Print Card vending machine located on the first floor of Central Library (near the Help Desk). The Print Card costs $1.00 and will have a $0.00 balance. Clients can add as much money as they desire in increments of $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00. The kiosk only accepts paper currency and gives no change.
  • You will get a pop-up message reminding you when you have 5 minutes left. At this time, make sure to save your work to a flash drive. When the two-hour limit has been reached, the computer will reboot and all unsaved work will be lost.
  • In the event that a computer is needed by a UT Arlington faculty, staff, or student, you may be required to relinquish use of the computer.
  • Some electronic databases are available only to current UT Arlington students, faculty, and staff. Library staff can let you know which electronic resources you'll be able to use.
