UT Arlington Department of Linguistics & TESOL students are regularly honored for their achievements. We'll tell you here about the honors we know of. (This page is organized by academic year.) 2011-2012Honor Society InducteesYujeong Choi and Forest Ivey were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in fall 2011. 2010-2011Department and College AwardsThe following awards were presented at the spring 2011 annual awards ceremony of the Department of Linguistics & TESOL:
University ScholarsHeather Beal (PhD Ling), Sean Cooper (MA TESOL), Nathan Eversole (MA Ling), Michelle Maupin (MA Ling), Sharon Peters (MA TESOL), Kristopher Wright (MA TESOL), and Roberta 'Bobbi' Ansiaux (MA TESOL) were named UT Arlington University Scholars (nominated by our department) on the basis of academic excellence. Grants, Funding, and other AwardsJoshua Jensen was awarded a two-year NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant to support his research of serial verb constructions and clause structure in the Jarai language. Three of our graduate students received funding for travel or research from the College of Liberal Arts: Vitaly Voinov, Dean’s Excellence Research Travel Award; Matt Benton, Dean’s Excellence Award for Graduate Research/Creative Activity; Sok-hun Kim, Dean’s Excellence Award for Graduate Research/Creative Activity. Joshua Jensen was awarded the Linguistic Society of America's new Student Abstract Award, which goes to the student who submitted the best abstract for a paper or poster presentation at the 2011 LSA Annual Meeting in January. Honor Society InducteesRoberta L. Ansiaux, Sean G. Cooper and Nathaniel James Eversole were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in fall 2010. 2009-2010Department and College AwardsThe following awards were presented at the spring 2010 annual awards ceremony of the Department of Linguistics & TESOL:
Additionally, Michelle Sylor received an award of excellence for best beginning Arabic student from the Department of Modern Languages. University ScholarsStephen George, Sok-hun Kim, Ashley Lober McKeever, Lynnelle Rhinier, and Kenneth Zuercher were named UT Arlington University Scholars (nominated by our department) on the basis of academic excellence. Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and CollegesAshley Lober McKeever (Linguistics Ph.D. program) was named to Who's Who for the 2009-2010 academic year. Honor Society InducteesHeather Beal and Ken Zuercher (Ph.D. Linguistics) were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in fall 2009. Heather Beal was also inducted into the UT Arlington chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and CollegesJoshua Jensen and Deborah King (Linguistics Ph.D. program) and Keith Huddleston (undergraduate linguistics minor) were named to Who's Who for the 2008-2009 academic year. Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society InducteesChris Aufdembrink and Reem Soliman (M.A. TESOL) were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in fall 2008. Travel and Research AwardsJoshua Jensen, Deborah King, Ashley Lober, and Catharine Welch were all awarded funds for research or research travel for this year. 2007-2008University ScholarsMatthew Benton, Elizabeth Dockendorf, Robert Eaton, Deborah King, and Catharine Welch were honored as "University Scholars" at the President's Convocation for Academic Excellence (The University of Texas at Arlington) in the 2008 spring semester. Department and College AwardsThe following awards were presented at the spring 2008 annual awards ceremony of the Department of Linguistics & TESOL:
2006-2007Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society InducteesCourtney Gillett and Jane Pappenhagen were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in 2007. University ScholarsThe following Linguistics students were honored as "University Scholars" at the President's Convocation for Academic Excellence (The University of Texas at Arlington) in the 2007 spring semester:
