Date/Time/Room:
Friday (09/10/2004) at 3:15pm in 487 Pickard Hall "The Category of Complexes, Part I"Abstract: In this talk, we will begin by defining the concept of a category. We will then demonstrate that complexes of R-modules are the objects of an R-linear category, denoted DGM(R), whose morphisms are the morphisms of complexes. In particular, when considering only the complexes with trivial differentials, along with their morphisms, we obtain a full R-linear subcategory of DGM(R), which we denote GM(R). Moreover, we will show that the category DGM(R) is equipped with a "shift" automorphism and a forgetful functor, and that these two maps commute with one another.
