Friday (09/10/2004) at 3:15pm in 487 Pickard Hall "The Category of Complexes, Part I"Abstract: In this talk, we will begin by defining the concept of a category. We will then demonstrate that complexes of Rmodules are the objects of an Rlinear category, denoted DGM(R), whose morphisms are the morphisms of complexes. In particular, when considering only the complexes with trivial differentials, along with their morphisms, we obtain a full Rlinear subcategory of DGM(R), which we denote GM(R). Moreover, we will show that the category DGM(R) is equipped with a "shift" automorphism and a forgetful functor, and that these two maps commute with one another.
