"Semifields and Finite Geometry"

Abstract: In this talk, we define what finite semifields are and give some structure theory about them. We exhibit that a proper semifield must have prime power order, and we give a sketch of the necessary and sufficient conditions for a proper semifield to exist. A very brief introduction to finite geometry will be given, geared towards the coordinatization of finite planes, where we find that semifields have geometric significance. Some of the properties of projective planes are coordinatized by semfields will also be discussed.
