Friday (4/25/2008) at 2:30pm in 304 Pickard Hall "Group Actions and Representations"Abstract: In this lecture, we introduce several examples of matrix group actions. We will define and discuss homogeneous spaces, isotropy groups, stratifications of group actions, and group representations, capitalizing on the interplay between geometry and linear algebra. Most of the talk should be accessible to advanced undergraduates and graduate students who have had linear algebra.
