"Analysis on graphs and its applications" (PDF file of the talk)

Abstract: The talk will be a non-technical survey of recent activities that involve analytic problems and approaches on discrete structures. Here one considers discrete counterparts of objects from PDEs, spectral theory, differential geometry, etc. The need for studying such objects and problems stems from many areas of contemporary sciences and technology: from various areas of mathematics, computer science, mathematical physics, optics, mesoscopic physics, waveguide theory, chemistry, material science, nanotechnology. The main varieties over which such problem are considered include in particular the usual (combinatorial) graphs, quantum graphs, and fractals. A list of references to the basic sources (books, surveys and collections of articles) will be also provided.
