  • Dr. Minerva Cordero has received the 2007 MAA Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics at the MAA Texas Section Spring Meeting held at UT Pan American in April 2007. She has also received a Faculty Development Leave for Fall 2007.
  • Dr. Irinel Dragan has joined the editorial board of Antarctica Journal of Mathematics as an Honorary Editor. He has also received the recognition of Professor Emeritus at UT Arlington.
  • Dr. Ruth Gornet was an invited plenary speaker at the recent Third Geometric Analysis Conference held in New York City, February 3 - 5, 2006. Other plenary speakers include researchers from Princeton, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, and Dartmouth College.
  • Dr. David Jorgensen has received the 2007 MAA UT Arlington Student Chapter Teacher of the Year Award.
  • Dr. Theresa Jorgensen has received the 2006 Honors College Faculty Award in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in teaching.
  • Dr. Christopher Kribs Zaleta has recently been invited to serve as an Associate Editor for Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering
  • Dr. Rencang Li has recently been invited to join the Editorial Board as an associate editor for the SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Application.
  • Dr. Alex Retakh will be on leave from UT Arlington during the 2007-2008 academic year. He will use the leave to visit the Department of Mathematics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
  • Dr. Barbara Shipman has been inducted into the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in teaching. She also received the 2006 MAA UTA Student Chapter Teacher of the Year Award.

  • The UT Arlington math undergraduate student team won the Mathematics Jeopardy contest at the Mathfest, the Mathematical Association of America's Summer National Meeting, August 3 - 5, 2007, San Jose, California. The team members were

  • Eric S. Daniel, a senior in mathematics, received the first place award for his presentation at the Honors Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium on Friday, November 3, 2006. Dr. Barbara Shipman is his Honors project advisor. The title of his presentation is "Matrix Lie Groups and their Impact on Particle Physics."

    • Gutam Sisodia, 2007 REU Program at University of North Carolina at Greensboro Research Area: Algorithmic Combinatorics on Words http://www.uncg.edu/mat/reu/ (Gutam was a student participant of the REU program at UNC Greensboro last year. This year, he will be a research/teaching assistant for the REU program there.
    All REU programs are highly competitive. Typically a group of 8 to 10 participants were selected for each program from over 100 applicants.
