UTTER Program Activities
The UTTER cohorts will go through a sequence of coursework, seminars and research activities in
which early stages focus on acquiring necessary knowledge and skills, leading to research project
formulation. Following the formulation phase, students will conduct an initial research phase, followed by a period of time for
reflection, analysis, summary and reporting of the initial phase. A second phase of research activity will
culminate in the preparation of formal, professional-standard reports and presentations.
For the duration of the UTTER project, we will host a series of invited speakers who are experts in
research and education at the interface between biology and mathematics. Research talks given by UT
Arlington faculty and by the invited speakers will help familiarize students with
the different research activities ongoing in mathematical biology.
In addition, UT Arlington will sponsor monthly program lunches, which will allow students to interact more informally with UTTER project staff as well as invited speakers. These events will foster professional relationships with faculty under whom they have not worked and it will also help socialize students to life in a research community.
