FAQs on the New Mav Express Card

 

Why get a new ID card? UTA will soon be moving to a new student database system that will use new numbers to identify students. The new cards will be required to work with this new system.

 

When will I get my new Mav Express card? New MavX cards will be issued according to a schedule based on your major or residence hall. The re-carding program begins November 14, 2005 with residence hall students and runs through the spring 2006 semester. It is important to get your new card during your scheduled time period to avoid lengthy lines and delays in receiving services and privileges.

 

What are the major changes with the new ID card? The new MavX card will have an updated look. The card number and issue date will be printed on the front of the card and new student ID number will be encoded in the magnetic stripe on the card. The Social Security number will no longer be used for identification and will not be encoded in the card. This offers improved privacy for cardholders.

 

How will I be able to use the new card? The new Mav Express card will offer access to all the same services and privileges as the old card. In addition, the new card design will allow cardholders the option on linking the MavX card to a Wells Fargo checking account. UTA has partnered exclusively with Wells Fargo to provide free checking accounts to all cardholders.

 

When will my new Mav Express card become active? When you get receive your new MavX card it will be active for many functions including exterior door access, meal plans, and debit plans. It can also be immediately activated for use with Wells Fargo bank accounts. Some functions, such as interior door access and off-campus debit purchases may take a few days to activate during this transition period. The old card will remain active for all privileges until the new card is completely active. It is recommended that you carry both cards until you have verified the new card works for all services and privileges.

 

Will I need to take a new picture? We recommend that all cardholders update their picture for the new card. We can use the current picture if desired.

 

What do I need to know about getting my new card? You should decide if you wish to take advantage of linking your new card to a Wells Fargo account prior to getting your new card. Wells Fargo representatives will be available on site to open new accounts and answer questions. You should also let the Mav Express staff know if you currently use your card to access any doors on campus.
