New Professor in Spanish Translation Studies

MODL is pleased to welcome Dr. Gregorio-Cano, a new Spanish faculty member in Translation Studies. Dr. Ana Gregorio-Cano received her Ph.D. in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Granada, Spain (2014). She also holds a Licenciatura (B.A./M.A.) in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Granada.
Ignacio Ruiz Pérez Wins Poetry Award

The Department of Modern Languages is delighted to announce that Ignacio Ruiz Pérez has won the prestigious Spanish poetry prize "Leon Felipe." In this year’s competition for the prize, the jury considered over four hundred poets from seventeen different countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Morocco, and others, as well as from Spain, the host country.

Dr. Amy Austin invited to the University of Colorado

Dr. Amy Austin was invited by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Colorado to give a campus-wide lecture "Reading Translatio Studii from Ramon Llull's Llibre del gentil (1274-1276)."
Tester for the Goethe Institute

Sabine Harvey has been selected to become an official tester for the Goethe Institute. Anyone who wants to study or work in Germany has to pass different levels of certificates in order to be admitted. Once she has competed the training, we can offer the testing through UT Arlington again.
UTA Students of Spanish Receive Honors at ACES

Undergraduate students of Spanish Jayr Logan obtained the Provost Award for his presentation entitled "Catalonia vs Spain: The Possible Separation" and Jessica Nordon won an Honorable Mention for his presentation "Human Trafficking" Both students worked under Dr. Ignacio Ruiz-Pérez's supervision

Stories to Our Children

Five students of Spanish are assisting the Arlington Public Library with a program called Stories to Our Children. This program is based on the conviction that the sharing of stories between parents and their children creates a lasting bond between the generations, and promotes an invaluable appreciation and commitment to literacy.
Dr. Tatiana Baeva Profile

Dr. Tatiana Baeva has been working with Allies in Youth Development (AiYD), a nonprofit helping orphans in Russia and in 2014 organized and ran a conference in Voronezh, Russia, entitled “Problems of the Youth in Russia.” Dr. Baeva has also been a STARTALK participant since 2012. In 2014, she earned a certificate of professional development from the University of Iowa.
"Deutscher Samstag" hosted at UNT

Students of the German Section in Modern Languages will participate in "Deutscher Samstag" on April 11th hosted at UNT. "Deutscher Samstag" is a German Immersion Day for high school students in North Texas who take German. UT Arlington students will host two interactive sessions and lead group discussions with high school students.
