Students in Materials Science and Engineering

The Materials Science and Engineering Department is the oldest, largest and most diversified program in North Texas.

The Materials Science and Engineering Department is a university-wide, highly interdisciplinary graduate program with eight core materials faculty and approximately 25 affiliated faculty spanning from physics and chemistry to electrical, mechanical, aerospace, civil and bio engineering.

Academic Excellence Award

This award is given to MSE graduate students who maintain a 4.0 GPA having taken at least 27 credit hours in their academic program.

Best Paper Award

This award is to honor students whose work has been recognized on a national or international level via a conference or journal award.

Carl Wiseman Service Award

The Carl Wiseman Service Award is presented in honor of Professor Carl Wiseman, who was responsible for the starting and early development of the Materials Science and Engineering Department. This award is given each year to a student who best exemplifies the quality of service and commitment towards the MSE Department. The winner’s name is included on a plaque that is on display in the MSE office.

Graduate Student Seminar Award

All Materials Science and Engineering thesis students are required to give a presentation on their research progress in the Materials Science and Engineering Seminar course that is offered each fall semester. Criteria for candidate selection: Project background, pertinent literature review, project objectives, and presentation organization/methodology.
