What is MSE

Every technological advancement in human history became a reality due to development of new materials.  From bicycles to space shuttles, from ipods to supercomputers, from soda cans to artificial blood vessel, everything around us is made of materials.

Man-made materials can be classified into five general categories:
Metals             Ceramics          Semiconductors            Polymers          Composites

Materials Science and Engineering focuses on

    • studying the properties and structure of materials
    • creating new and better materials
    • improving existing materials
    • selecting appropriate materials for a wide range of applications

Graduates from UTA’s MSE program working in exciting and diverse fields such as: information technology, high density data storage, magnetic materials, and microelectronics, nanotechnology, biomaterials, and new materials for energy systems and aerospace.
