Bill Gottlieb
Consumer Insights Manager
Starbucks Coffee Company
Bill is currently responsible for all marketing research activities not directly related to beverages and food. This encompasses corporate strategy; marketing, advertising and promotion; licensed stores; the Starbucks Card; Hear Music/Starbucks Entertainment; Seattle’s Best Coffee; and much, much more. Prior to this, he managed insights for the North American Coffee Partnership, the 12-year old joint venture between Starbucks and Pepsi that markets bottled Frappuccino, Double Shot, and Starbucks Iced Coffee.
Bill began his marketing research career at Tracy-Locke Advertising in Dallas. Colleagues advised him that the best way to build a career in research was to obtain packaged goods experience. He was able to secure a position at The Clorox Company and then Del Monte Foods in the San Francisco Bay Area. Leaving the corporate world behind, he established his own quantitative research consultancy, Marketing Insights, which he headed for 12 years. Eventually, one of his clients, The Hartman Group, convinced him to join their firm as a managing partner, leading the research function for this marketing consultancy specializing in the natural products industry. From there, he went to Coinstar to direct the marketing research and metrics group, before joining Starbucks in 2004.
