David joined Carolina Power & Light, now part of Progress Energy, in 1999 after a 2 ½-year assignment as Director of Research at Entergy. His prior experience included a 22-year advertising agency career that involved more than 50 assignments. His clients included GTE, Frito-Lay, American Airlines, Taco-Bell, Kraft Foods, Phillips Petroleum, KinderCare, and Brinks Home Security, plus other businesses in retailing, banking, hospitality, insurance, health care, business-to-business, and direct marketing. He worked with major agencies including DDB Needham Worldwide, Tracy-Locke/BBDO, and the J. Walter Thompson Company.

At Progress Energy, David is responsible for all customer and marketing research, as well as customer intelligence databases and tools.

David’s 10-year academic career included faculty posts in advertising and mass communication at the University of Minnesota, the University of Nebraska, and Southern Illinois University, where he earned his Ph.D.

David is past-president of the Energy Marketing Research Council, a member of the American Marketing Association, and president of the Philharmonic Association. He previously served on steering committee of BBDO Advertising’s Worldwide Network Research Council, was on the board of directors for Junior Achievement of Arkansas, and was a scout leader for 10 years.
