Back by popular demand! It’s the 3rd Annual Dancing with Mavericks! Join the dance challenge as student organizations compete in a series of dances and games! No dance experience is necessary. Just bring plenty of energy and be ready to cheer on your favorite team! The entire UTA community is invited to join in the fun! There will be an open dance area for all to enjoy!

What do we need to know if we want to have a team?

  • Teams must be a collaboration of two UTA student organizations or one residence hall.
  • For registration, you will need to confirm the names and contacts of the two organizations making up the team.
  • Each team must designate 1 member who will attend a mandatory Captain’s pre-meeting on either Monday, Oct. 12th at Noon or Monday, Oct. 12th at 5:15 pm in the Multicultural Affairs office.
  • 8 people per team:  See below for breakdown of players!

NEW IN 2009! Competition Guidelines

Dancing with Mavs has exciting changes in store for 2009! The evening will be divided into 3 rounds.
During each round:

  • Designated players will compete for points in an activity while designated dancers are in a separate room learning a short choreographed routine with basic salsa steps.
  • After the activity round is complete, the dancers will return to perform for the judges and earn additional points!

Team members will now compete in…

  • Round 1: Soul Train line - 2 Players
  • Dance Lesson A - 2 Players
  • Round 2: Musical Chairs - 1 Player
  • Dance Lesson B - 1 Player
  • Round 3: Reggaton Freestyle - 2 Players

How to earn points

  • A judges panel will award points for each round!
  • SPIRIT BONUS!  Points will also be awarded for teams showing the most spirit and support of their dancers!  So get creative, make signs, shirts, and a banner for your team!  Each team will have a designated spot to post a banner for your team!  Banners can be as large as 9x12 feet.
