Inaugural Pride Week

It's the inaugural Pride Week celebration at UT Arlington! This new event is an opportunity to celebrate and educate the campus on important issues facing the LGBTQA community.

Gay Bingo
Monday, October 8
UC Rio Grande A, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
You don't have to be gay to play. But you will have a gay old time at Gay Bingo! Win prizes! Meet new friends! Enjoy refreshments! Donations will be taken to establish a new LGBTQA Program scholarship. 

Faculty and Staff Professional Development with Shane Windmeyer
Tuesday, October 9
MAC Room 133, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Shane L. Windmeyer, M.S., Ed., is a leading author on gay campus issues, national leader in gay and lesbian civil rights and a champion for LGBT issues on college campuses. He is a co-founder and Executive Director of Campus Pride, the only national organization for campus leaders working to create a safer college environment for LGBT students.
 
Shane will discuss the 2010 State of Higher Education for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender People national study, the most comprehensive national research of its kind to date.  Recommendations from the study provide the means for campus leaders to implement strategic initiatives to address the needs of their LGBTQ students and employees.
 
Held in conjunction with the Diversity Lecture Series.  Free and open to all UTA faculty/staff.  No tickets required.

"What's Your Gay Point Average" with Shane Windmeyer

Learning about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues does not have to be divisive or difficult on campus. Windmeyer is a leading author on gay campus issues, a national leader in gay and lesbian civil rights and a champion for LGBT issues on college campuses. He is co-founder and executive director of Campus Pride, the only national organization for campus leaders working to create a safer college environment for LGBT students.

Windmeyer will discuss challenges confronting LGBT youth and ways every person can create safer communities where everyone can thrive.  This interactive, high impact program destroys stereotypes, deepens understanding and compels participants to take the next step in coming out as visible allies and leaders for all people, including LGBT people. Held in conjunction with the Diversity Lecture Series.  Free and open to the public.  No tickets required.

Joel Burns, Forth Worth City Councilman

Wednesday, October 10
UC Rosebud Theatre, Noon - 1 p.m.
"It Gets Better!"  Joel Burns continues to share his positive message about the importance of bullying prevention in creating inclusive and safe school environments.  The Gay Straight Alliance co-hosts this event and invites you to join in this important discussion.   

National Coming Out Day:
Pink Door Event

Thursday, October 11
Library Mall, 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The Pride Peers invite you to our campus event honoring National Coming Out Day. On this day, stop by and get your photo as you walk through a large pink door located on the library mall to symbolize the act of coming out of the closet.  Event is free and open to all UTA community.

Safe Zone Training Workshop
Thursday, October 11
UC Concho, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Participants in Safe Zone training will learn about heterosexual privilege, campus and community resources, and how to be supportive to members of the LGBTQ community. Pre-registration is requested.  Register online by October 10th.  Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, the office of the Provost, and Human Resources.

Friday, October 12
We will be raffling official "Maverick Pride" tees at each of the Pride Week events.  Wear your tee or any UTA gear and show your Maverick Pride!
