The Multicultural Mavericks are thrilled to be hosting our first annual Asian Heritage Month in November 2008. Our previous Asian Awareness Week was a huge success so the time has come to expand the celebration to a month long series of events. Watch for a Bollywood film series, Martial Arts nights, Cultural Game Fest, Dispelling the Model Minority Myth workshop, and service project.
Plus, mark your calendars for November 17thfor the Diversity Lecture Series and our featured guest speaker Dr. Ronald Takaki, acclaimed Asian Studies historian and author of Strangers from a Different Shore. Collaborating organizations will include but are not limited to the Vietnamese Student Association, Filipino Student Association and International Student Organization.
Students interested in helping plan Asian Heritage Month are encouraged to join the Multicultural Mavericks planning committee that begins meeting in September 2008.
