  Semana de Cultura

Semana de Cultura is a week long celebration held every year to honor the diverse population of Hispanic students, faculty, and staff at The University of Texas at Arlington. Semana began in 1970 when the Association of Mexican American Students (AMAS) saw a need on campus for a program to celebrate the Hispanic culture, and they called it “Semana Chicana.” As the celebration grew in popularity, Multicultural Affairs led the initiative in continued collaboration with students. The name was changed in 1985 because the students who put the program together wanted to represent all Hispanic cultures. The program has been held every year since.
