Mini Grant Program
Overview
All recognized UTA student organizations seeking funding to host an event for one of the months, can make requests through the Multicultural Affairs mini grant program. We will be offering a limited amount of mini grants to assist in covering costs for programs that follow the guidelines and contribute to the mission of each month.
Student organizations may submit applications for multiple events. There is currently no limit to the number of awards one group can receive. However, we will try to fund as many groups as possible.
Examples of programs likely to be approved are:
- programs that help to raise cultural awareness; e.g. poetry nights, culture fest, film night.
- events that address an issue or relevant topic, e.g. forums, discussion nights, lectures, speakers.
- service projects aligned with heritage/history month goals.
- events that help to encourage a sense of community and/or pride in being a UTA Maverick, e.g. game night, collaborations between 2 or more student groups, unity day, theme night.
Mini grants mayNOTbe used for student travel, scholarships, fundraisers, off campus event (possible exception: service projects), donations to a group/individual.
Events that are less likely to be funded: events that are purely social and have no educational or cultural awareness component.

Guidelines & Rules
- Mini grants may be used to offset program costs for activities held that meet one or more goals of the heritage/history month as outlined on the application.
- Activities must adhere to the guidelines and rules for programs as outlined by the SGO office and university.
- Events must be accessible to persons with disabilities.
- Admission to events that receive mini grant support must be free and open to the UTA community. Any questions or request to waive this requirement can be addressed by Multicultural Affairs Director.
- Mini grants mayNOTbe used for student travel, scholarships, fundraisers, off campus event (possible exception: service projects), donations to a group/individual.
- Disbursement of funds:
Deposits willNOTbe made directly into student organization accounts.
- A timeline with instructions for submitting any necessary information will be outlined in mini grant award letters. Groups must adhere to timeline or risk forfeiting mini grant.
- Some additional accounting paperwork may be required. Groups must adhere to paperwork timelines or risk forfeiting the money.
- Groups must use funds for the budget item for which it was granted. Prior approval to use for a different expense must be granted by Multicultural Affairs Director.
- Multicultural Affairs prefers to pay vendors directly. Reimbursements may also be an option but are discouraged.
- As funding is through student service fees, groups canNOTalso be receiving funds from the Program Assistance Funds. The funding source is the same so groups willNOTbe allowed to “double dip” into the source. However, student groups are encouraged to apply for either a mini grant or Program Assistance Fund support.
- Advertising:
- Groups receiving grants will be required to acknowledge Multicultural Affairs in all advertising as instructed in award letter.
- Dependent on staff availability, Multicultural Affairs may be available to assist in designing advertising for program.
- An electronic copy of marketing material must be submitted to Multicultural Affairs office prior to event.
- Multicultural Affairs reserves the right to forfeit mini grant should advertising be deemed inappropriate or inadequate.
- Evaluation:
- Groups receiving grants will be required to complete a short post-event survey provided by Multicultural Affairs.
- Depending on event type, Multicultural Affairs may require that group distribute a participant feedback form at event that we will provide. (Note: Usually limited to educational events such as speakers, leadership, or forum type events)
- Multicultural Affairs reserves the right to deny any requests for funding.
- Organizations that receive a mini grant but fail to adhere to these guidelines may be held responsible for any funds received.
