Black Leadership Institute

Black Leadership Institute (BLI) is an excellent opportunity to coalition build amongst the African American community at the University of Texas at Arlington.  Selected BLI participants will be invited to a series of workshops designed to enhance leadership skills, educate on the African culture from a historical framework, and motivate students to be successful inside and outside the classroom.  Participants will also participate in a cultural pilgrimage to continue to educate students on the African American history.

  Goals

Through participation in BLI, participants will have the opportunity to…

  • Attend special activities designed to educate students on their African heritage
  • Strengthen leadership skills
  • Bring students together strengthened their support network
  • Bolster self confidence
  • Motivate participants to be successful inside and outside the classroom

  Eligibility

All UTA students are eligible to apply.

  Timeline

  • November: Application available
  • January: Participants selected
  • February 7th: Student retreat and speaker
  • 1 workshop per week in the month of February
  • Participants attending all events will be allowed to attend an immersion trip Saturday February 28th or Sunday March 1st (Final Date TBA)
  • Students will attend the African American Alumni Reception
