The Music building houses a variety of large and small classrooms, rehearsal areas and practice facilities, and a new recording studio and MIDI lab. The building is in close proximity to the Fine Arts branch library which holds music books, scores, sound recordings, and computer assisted instructional equipment. The building is centrally located on campus and is easily accessible from all areas of the University. Departmental practice pianos located on the second and third floors are accessable to all keyboard students. UT Arlington is working toward becoming an all Steinway school. Piano teaching studios are each equiped with two Steinway grands. The 400-seat Irons Recital Hall contains two Steinway concert grands and a Casavant pipe organ. The department has a two-manual French double harpsichord built by Richard Kingston.
