9:30am Registration and Check-In, Fine Arts Bldg. Lobby
10:00am Opening Recital
11:00am Flute masterclass
12:30pm Lunch (provided, free)
1:15pm Piccolo masterclass (bring your picc!)
2:00pm Massed Flute Ensemble Rehearsal (all flute day participants; teachers welcome, too!)
3:00pm Flute Closing recital with Flute Ensemble performance (parents, teachers and friends invited)
4:00pm Flute Day ends

The clinic will be held in the Music Wing of the Fine Arts Building on the UTA Campus

No! The clinic is free and lunch will be provided!

MASTERCLASSES

All Flute Day attendees will participate as observers and students in both the flute and piccolo masterclasses. Students wishing to perform in one or both of the masterclasses must "audition" in advance. To be considered, send a CD recording consisting of 5-10 minutes of representative playing. You may apply to play at either the flute or piccolo masterclasses, or both. CDs must be postmarked by 3/23/12. Winners will be informed by 3/27.

MASTERCLASS PRESENTERS

Dr. Sarah Frisof
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Sarah Frisof recently completed her doctoral work at the University of Michigan. Dr. Frisof also studied at the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music.. She was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Kobe International Flute Competition, and the 2nd prizewinner of the National Flute Associations’s Young Artist Competition. Dr. Frisof has attended the Verbier, Tanglewood and Aspen Music Festivals, and she has substituted with the New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, and Boston Symphony. As a teacher, Dr. Frisof has maintained a private studio for over 10 years, and she served as the graduate assistant at the University of Michigan. Her interests in outreach and education have taken her to Zimbabwe and Brazil, where she ran music programs and participated in humanitarian work. Dr. Frisof is an avid runner, and she has completed two marathons.

Jennifer Gunn, Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Jennifer M. Gunn was appointed to the position of piccolo of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra by Daniel Barenboim in June 2005. Since joining the CSO, Jennifer has also been involved in the orchestra’s MusicNOW contemporary music series and is a coach for the Civic Orchestra. Ms. Gunn and has been a regular guest artist with the Chicago Chamber Musicians and Chicago’s Music of the Baroque Orchestra. Prior to joining the CSO, she was the assistant principal flute of the Louisville Orchestra (KY) for the 2004-2005 season and principal flute of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic (IN) from 2001 to 2004. She has also performed with various other orchestras including the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati symphony orchestras.
Ms. Gunn made her debut as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in May 2008 playing Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Major, RV 443. In April 2007, she was featured as a soloist playing Shirish Korde’s Nesting Cranes on the MusicNOW series. While a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Jennifer was a featured soloist on multiple occasions; she also has won several competitions including the National Flute Association’s Piccolo Artist Competition in 2004.
A Native of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, Jennifer holds a bachelor of music degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she studied with Robert Langevin and Rhian Kenny. Her other teachers have included George Pope and Mary Kay Ferguson. Jennifer is currently on the faculty of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
Jennifer is married to Jonathan Gunn, a clarinetist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the couple splits their time between Cincinnati and Chicago.
