Sean Atkinson, Assistant Professor of Music, received both Ph.D. And M.M. degrees in music theory from Florida State University. While at Florida State, he was nominated for the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. He received the B.M. degree in both music theory and trombone performance from Furman University.

Dr. Atkinson is an active presenter at music conferences both nationally and abroad, including presentations at Music Theory Southeast, the Association for Technology in Music Instruction National Conference, the Semiotic Society of America National Conference, the International Conference for Ph.D. Music Students, and the International Conference on Music and Minimalism. His research currently explores recent music through various interdisciplinary approaches.

Dr. Atkinson currently serves on the Society for Music Theory’s Professional Development Committee and is an Editorial Assistant for the society’s online journal, MTO.
