Dr. Young-Hyun Cho
Assistant Professor of Piano, Piano
Dr. Young-Hyun Cho has developed her career as a versatile pianist, appearing as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. As a featured soloist, Dr. Cho has appeared with such orchestras as the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Euro-Asian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra. Her performances and interviews have been broadcast nationally on KBS TV and FM Radio. As a recitalist, she has performed in notable venues across the United States and Asia, including the Seoul Arts Center?s Concert Hall, McCullum Theater, Sejong Grand Theater, Miriam Friedberg Concert Hall, Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center, and Kilbourn Hall. Dr. Cho?s performing credentials have been further enhanced through prize winnings in international and national piano competitions which include the Louisiana International Piano Competition, the Eastman Concerto Competition, the Harrison Winter Piano Competition, the KBS Music Competition, the Music Association of Korea Competition, the Seoul Arts Center?s Orchestral Festival Music Competition, and the Joong-Ang Times Music Competition. As an active chamber musician, Dr. Cho has performed numerous collaborative recitals. She was selected as a member of the Eastman Chamber Music Society and repeatedly nominated for the Excellence in Accompanying Award at the Eastman School of Music. She has collaborative coaching experience with various pianists, instrumentalists, and singers, such as Jean Barr (piano); the Ying Quartet, the Peabody Trio (chamber group); Oleh Krysa, Mikhail Kopleman (strings); and Robert McIver, Robert Swenson (voice). She also served as a staff accompanist at the Peabody Conservatory. Dr. Cho is a dedicated educator, who has held teaching positions at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York; Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland; the Academy of Music in Gaithersburg, Maryland; the McLean School of Music in McLean, Virginia; and the Preparatory School of the Korean National University in Seoul, Korea. In addition, she has been invited to teach at the Berlin International Music Festival and Academy in Germany. Young-Hyun Cho received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, a Master?s degree and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor?s degree from Seoul National University, where her teachers were Nelita True, Boris Slutsky, and Mi Kyung Kim. |
