On behalf of the Department of Music, I would like to thank you for your interest in The University of Texas at Arlington. In accordance with the new Department of Music Admissions Policy, (applicable to students entering in or after fall, 2004) all students wishing to be music majors must qualify for admission to the department by auditioning on their principal instrument or voice. Before the first day of classes, students must contact a faculty member who represents your performance specialty (instrument or voice) to schedule an audition. If you are unsuccessful in your attempts to contact a faculty member, please call the Music Office at 817-272-3471. It is in your best interest to audition for admission into the Department of Music before making application for admission to the University. In addition, you are required to take a Theory Diagnostic exam designed to assess your music theory. I meet with new music majors to set up class schedules during the Maverick Orientation, Advising, and Registration (M.O.A.R) and Transfer Advising and Registration (T.A.R.) sessions that are held throughout each semester. Student expenditures, in addition to tuition and fees, may be anticipated in any music program. Students are encouraged to contact me for estimated expenses related to their area of study. If you have questions concerning orientation or registration, or general questions concerning admission to UTA, please call the Admissions Office at 817-272-6287, or contact admissions@uta.edu. If you have questions concerning the undergraduate music program, please feel free to contact me at mcquaid@uta.edu or 817-272-2485. Once again, thank you for considering UTA!
