Department of Music Admissions
All students wishing to major in music must complete an audition. Students are encouraged to perform a live on-campus audition, however, a video recording may be substituted under special circumstances. Auditions at the departmental scholarship audition day will fulfill this requirement. To schedule an audition on a day other than the scholarship audition day, contact the teacher of your major instrument/voice. It is recommended that the student complete the audition process prior to May 15th for the fall semester and November 15th for the spring semester. Click on the faculty link to the left for a list of instructors.
Students must perform solo(s) or etude(s) repertoire that demonstrates technical proficiency and musicianship. The candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria: a) musical potential, b) technical competence, c) style and interpretation, d) repertoire.

Basic Music Skills
In order to be fully admitted as a music major, the student is expected to possess a basic understanding of music theory. Diagnostic exams in music theory must be taken before the beginning of the student's first semester in order to be placed in the proper semester of coursework.

Note: At the discretion of the music faculty, students may be admitted to the department provisionally for one semester.
