(Applicable to students entering in or after fall, 2004)

All students wishing to be music majors must qualify for admission to the department by audition on their principal instrument or voice. If a student fails to gain unconditional admission but shows promise, the faculty audition panel may grant conditional admission, subject to a re-evaluation at the end of the first semester. In addition, freshman and transfer students (who have not completed their theory sequence) will take a theory diagnostic exam during the week before classes begin. Information concerning auditions and placement tests is available in the Undergraduate Advisor's Office.
