UTA STRING AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:

Taped auditions are acceptable, but must be in video format. Live auditions are preferred. Memorization and accompaniment are both optional.

VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO

Performance level:

1 movement of a standard concerto
2 contrasting movements of a Bach unaccompanied work
2 major or minor scales of our choice (up to keys with 3 sharps or flats)

Majors other than performance:

1 solo of your choice
1 etude demonstrating technique
2 scales of your choice

BASS

Performance level:

2 contrasting movements from a Baroque sonata such as the Eccles
1 etude demonstrating technique from books such as Simandl or Kreutzer
2 orchestral excerpts - one from a Beethoven symphony and one from a Mozart symphony
2 major scales with their related minor scales and arpeggios in two octaves

Majors other than performance:

1 solo of your choice
1 etude demonstrating technique
2 scales (2 octaves) of the your choice

GRADUATE STUDENTS (MM IN PERFORMANCE):

Taped auditions are acceptable, but must be in video format.  Live auditions are preferred. At least one piece must be performed from memory, and accompaniment is optional.

VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO

2 movements from a Bach unaccompanied work
1 movement of a standard concerto
1 additional work from the 20th or 21st Century

BASS

2 movements from a Bach unaccompanied work
1 movement of a standard concerto

Beethoven Symphony #9 - Recitative from the fourth movement
Strauss - Ein Heldenleben including:
