String Preparatory Program

The String Preparatory Program offers private instruction on violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Lessons are taught by competent UTA String Division students (at the undergraduate and graduate level) under the supervision of the UTA String Faculty. Here are some of the characteristics of the program:

  1. Flexibility in lessons: You may choose between 30-, 45- or 60-minute private lessons.
  2. Flexibility in scheduling: Not only do you have the opportunity to organize your schedule privately with your teacher, but you may also choose between 14-week semester and 12-week semester.
  3. Flexibility in tuition payments: Payments can be made in full at the beginning of the semester, or in four payments.
  4. Student Recitals: Students participate in a recital that is held at the end of the semester in Irons Recital Hall. We provide an accompanist at no charge to the students.
  5. Master Classes with UTA Faculty: UTA String Faculty members donate their time to provide free master classes for the String Preparatory students.
  6. Supervision of Teachers: Each String Preparatory teacher is evaluated and supervised on a number of occasions by UTA String Faculty to ensure their quality of teaching.
  7. Suzuki Program: We are also offering the Suzuki program for those interested in this remarkable instructional method. This method is particularly well suited to the younger students and involves the parent and teacher as partners in the student's musical journey. Our program precisely follows the teachings and philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and is directed by Christine Rewolinski. Ms. Rewolinski is a Suzuki specialist registered with the SAA and has many years experience in the program. Parents, for more information on Suzuki Talent Education visit the web-site: www.suzukiassocation.org.

Application forms are available at the Music Department Office and at the String Preparatory Office (room 306). You can also download the String Preparatory Application, Suzuki Application, Suzuki FAQ, and a Map to the UTA Music Department (Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader required). The application form has complete rate information and applicable policies. Please complete the form and turn in to the Music Department Office, String Preparatory Office, or mail it to the address at the bottom of this web page with the first payment.

FAQ:

Q: Where do I go for lessons?
A: All lessons are held on campus in the music building on the second or third floor. The room number will depend on the teacher.

Q: How do I cancel a lesson?
A: Anytime you cannot make a lesson, you should contact your teacher by their preferred contact method at least 24 hours in advance. If you call the office, your teacher may not receive the message in time to know you cannot make it to a lesson.

Q: Where and how do I pay?
A: We accept check only. Please make it payable to String Preparatory Program. You may drop off your check downstairs in the Music office or the Music office mailbox. If the String Preparatory Office is open, you may turn it in there. You may also give it to your teacher and they will turn it in. Lastly, you can mail it to:
