UT Arlington/Carrizo Partnership
Partnership Summary
The University of Texas at Arlington and
Carrizo Oil and Gas, Inc.
The University of Texas at Arlington recently made provision for the exploration and development of natural gas on campus from an underground geologic formation called the Barnett Shale, the second-largest producing oil and gas field in the United States. As this significant natural gas reserve continues to be developed in the region, it provides a unique opportunity for UT Arlington to actively participate by capitalizing on the value of the campus mineral rights to benefit the University, the community of Arlington, and North Texas.
With this goal of creating a potentially substantial and sustainable benefit for the future of the University community, UT Arlington has joined with Carrizo Oil and Gas, Inc., to pursue a responsible program of exploration and production of natural gas on the University’s campus. Carrizo brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, safety, and reliability to the partnership with UT Arlington and the community. Carrizo was chosen in part because of the company’s unwavering commitment to protecting the interests of the entire University community — students, faculty, staff, alumni, and neighbors — throughout the process of exploration and production.
For more than a century, UT Arlington has been a leader in the economic development and vitality of Arlington and the surrounding area. In critical fields such as engineering, nursing, business, architecture, and the sciences, the University has created new knowledge in its laboratories and classrooms and has educated tens-of-thousands of students who are now business leaders in Texas and beyond. Likewise, the University has created a thriving presence in the arts and humanities, contributing in numerous ways to our community’s cultural and intellectual landscape. The University is committed to continuing this long tradition of building a community in which we can all take great pride. Ensuring the necessary resources to reach our goals is essential.
One of the key factors in improving the quality of education at universities is recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty, providing state-of-the-art facilities, and developing innovative learning opportunities for our students. The University is constantly looking for new ways to create value for its students and prospective students while providing a high-quality education at an affordable cost. This gift of natural gas production and the potential for significant revenue will provide the University with a solid foundation to improve campus and educational opportunities for many years to come.
