Leadership academy to expand
BSNF Railway is giving The University of Texas at Arlington a $300,000 gift aimed at expanding a business leadership academy to freshmen and sophomores selected for the program, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The commitment from Fort Worth-based BSNF allows UT Arlington to expand the Goolsby Leadership Academy, a program that lets selected juniors and seniors enhance their business education through specialized courses and leadership activities.
Bed races go Flintstones
UT Arlington’s annual bed races appeared last week on KXAS/NBC 5. This year’s race featured competitors dressed as characters from The Flintstones.
Occupy Wall Street analysis
Ben Agger, sociology professor and director of UT Arlington’s Center for Theory, was quoted in a Christian Science Monitor story that speculated on whether the Occupy Wall Street movement would be helped by diverse groups across the country rallying around the cause. Agger cited several historical comparisons and said Occupy Wall Street is occurring for the usual reasons laid out by Karl Marx: class struggle as a response to the failures of capitalism.
