Grant for bilingual education research
Two University of Texas at Arlington bilingual education professors have received a nearly $1.9 million federal grant to improve preparation for teachers of English learners, The Dallas Morning News reported. Luis Rosado, director of the College of Education and Health Professions Center for Bilingual Education, along with Carla Amaro-Jiménez, assistant professor of bilingual/ESL education, worked to obtain the grant from the U.S. Department of Education and its Office of English Language Acquisition.
Men's basketball team
Thanks to a hot start to the 2011-2012 season, The University of Texas at Arlington’s men’s basketball team has begun receiving national attention. The Mavericks are receiving votes in the latest National Mid-Major Poll, released Monday. Among UT Arlington’s seven wins are victories over Kent State (ranked No. 11 in the poll), Louisiana Tech and the University of North Texas. Narrow losses include nationally ranked and undefeated Baylor and perennial powers Utah State and UT Austin.
