Millions go unclaimed in state loan program
Too many higher education institutions fail to promote a state loan program geared to help cash-strapped families afford college, leaving more than $32 million of state financial aid sitting in the bank each year, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported after a state panel reviewed those programs. Karen Krause, UT Arlington director of financial aid, said the biggest problem has been "the extreme inconsistencies in funding from one year to the next, making it hard for schools to know what to tell new students."
