College of Nursing professors recognized

Two UT Arlington College of Nursing professors have been selected as fellows of the American Academy of Nursing for their contributions to nursing, the Dallas Business Journal’s Executive People on the Move reported. Judy LeFlore, director of pediatric, acute care pediatric and neonatal nurse practitioner programs, has received national attention for her leadership in using simulation and game-based technology in teaching. Jeannette Crenshaw, a clinical assistant professor, teaches in the college’s online program. LeFlore and Crenshaw are among 174 fellows from around the world being honored this fall at the Academy’s 39th annual meeting and conference in Washington D.C.

Trader Joe's appeal in a competitive market

KDAF/CW 33 interviewed Ritesh Saini, assistant professor of marketing at UT Arlington, about the new chain of grocery stores popping up in Dallas-Fort Worth. On Friday, California-based Trader Joe’s will open in Fort Worth and add its name to the long list of established stores already in the area. What makes D/FW so competitive is “this area is one growth engine which has continued to show economic growth in the past few years,” Saini said. “Some of the other larger cities, one million plus, have stagnated.”

Research to help others breathe easier

The Federal Telemedicine News blog reported on work by UT Arlington electrical engineering professor J.-C. Chiao, and his research team, that could lead to improved and rapid detection of breathing problems including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Spotlight on film program

The Fort Worth Weekly extensively noted UT Arlington’s film program in an article about local actor and filmmaker Frank Mosley. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature with a minor in film from UT Arlington.

Racing to the finish line

Earth Techling reported that UT Arlington won the GM Best-Engineered Hybrid Award at the international 2012 Formula Hybrid Competition held April 30 through May 3 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. UT Arlington placed fourth in the hybrid section.
