UT Arlington kinesiologist comments on pilots' disorientation

Problems that have imperiled pilots of the famed F-22 Raptor fighter jet are being fixed, a senior Air Force leader said this month, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. However, not everyone is reassured, the story said. One pilot's wife says her husband deteriorated emotionally and physically during the last few months of his life. He committed suicide in July 2008. The Star-Telegram story quoted Paul McDonough, a UT Arlington associate professor of kinesiology, about the disorientation and dizziness some pilots reported.

Maverick Speakers Series opens with Deford

DFW.com reported that Frank Deford will kick off the 2012-13 Maverick Speakers Series at The University of Texas at Arlington. Deford, a sportswriter and novelist, will talk about "Journalism: Sports and Beyond" at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at UT Arlington's Texas Hall. Political commentator Cokie Roberts, Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers, astronaut Mark Kelly and TV personality Jeff Corwin round out the series' speakers.
