Astronaut appearance part of Maverick Speakers Series
Astronaut Mark Kelly, a retired U.S. Navy captain and best-selling author, will make an appearance tonight at Texas Hall as part of the Maverick Speakers Series, KTVT CBS 11reported. Kelly has been in the news recently pushing for more gun control in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting. His wife, former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, survived an assassination attempt in 2011.
Criminology professor cites red light camera concerns
Alex del Carmen, UT Arlington chair and professor of criminology and criminal justice department, was quoted extensively in a KXAS NBC 5 report about red light cameras that cities use for enforcement of traffic laws. Del Carmen said he believes it's dangerous when some city officials say there is a certain ticket quota for these red light cameras. City officials said the red light cameras are designated based on safety concerns, the report said.
UT Arlington to host concussion conference in April
UT Arlington will host a national concussion conference April 12-13, KTVT CBS 11 reported. The summit will bring national experts in the area of concussions. UT Arlington is in the middle of a study on concussions in high school sports. The conference is open to parents, coaches and medical professionals.
