Sequestration to hit universities
The Dallas Business Journal included UT Arlington in an article about the impact that sequester-related cuts will have on aid and research to universities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Making methanol
Scientists at The University of Texas at Arlington have taken a major step toward converting the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide into methanol, a liquid chemical that, in turn, is key to making plastics and lubricants, according to the Toronto Star’s Wheels.ca website and the website Downstream Today. The new process is safer, simpler and less expensive than previous methods, said Krishnan Rajeshwar, interim associate vice president for research at UT Arlington.
Graduate leads social work group
Education Technology noted that Anthony McClain will assume leadership for the 140,000 member National Association of Social Workers in May. The former commissioner for the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership holds a Master of Science in Social Work from UT Arlington.
Movin' Mavs win
UT Arlington’s Movin’ Mavs had a win in their first outing at the 2013 National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament being held at the University of Alabama, WBMA/ABC 33 (Birmingham, Ala.) reported. They play again at 3 p.m. today.
