Inside Higher Ed noted that actor and political activist Kal Penn will speak at The University of Texas at Arlington during its spring 2013 commencement week.
Price research on obesity workers featured on Chinese Network News site
The Fortune Chinese network noted a study by Joshua Price, assistant professor of economics at UT Arlington, and Cornell economist John Crawley, in its story about workers fined for being obese. According to the study, a workplace program that offered financial incentives for losing weight to 2,635 workers found only modest weight loss and a high dropout rate.
Saxe quoted ahead of Bush Presidential Center dedication
NewsFeed Researcher.com quoted Allan Saxe, UT Arlington associate professor of political science, in a piece about the dedication of The George W. Bush Presidential Center. “The dedication is important in that it gives an official imprimatur to the library, especially with former presidents in attendance,” Saxe said.
EPA recognizes UT Arlington at first-ever Campus RainWorks Challenge
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized UT Arlington with an honorable mention for its entry into the EPA’s first Campus RainWorks Challenge, CE News.com reported. The new design challenge was created to inspire the next generation of landscape architects, planners and engineers to develop innovative green infrastructure systems that reduce stormwater pollution and support sustainable communities.
Luminant donation will benefit UT Arlington teacher workshops
The Wall Street Journal reported that Luminant has donated $60,000 to fund two environmentally focused teacher workshops this summer. Half of the money will support The University of Texas at Arlington's Environmental Education Summer Institute workshop, to be held June 9-14. The other $30,000 will fund a program at Luminant’s continuing education facility in Tyler. College News and Research.com and Green Technology World also reported the news.
UT Arlington librarians collaborate for second book focusing a spotlight on Arlington
The Arlington Citizen-Journal noted the new book by UT Arlington librarians Evelyn Barker and Lea Worcester that examines Arlington history. The librarians’ second collaboration is part of the “Image of America” series and it looks at Arlington’s unique characters, like “boy mayor” Tom Vandergriff, James Fielder, Ott Cribbs and others.
