Maverick Milestones

This May, during an already exciting time for the University—commencement season!—I am thrilled to share that we celebrated a major milestone in University history. Kelcy Warren, a UTA alumnus, UT System regent, and a veritable titan of business, donated $12 million to the University, a gift that will impact generations of Mavericks to come. His generosity will cement UTA’s place as a leader in the growing resource and energy engineering (REE) field, establishing a new bachelor’s degree in REE and benefiting Maverick students and faculty who are interested in pursuing their own REE research and career goals.

Regent Warren’s gift is the largest in University history, and I am grateful for his bold philanthropic vision. That vision, now set in motion, will not only help establish UTA as a national leader in an important industry, it will also forever change the landscape of the University and leave a lasting legacy here.

Of course, there is always cause for celebration here in Maverick Country. Just days after announcing Regent Warren’s gift, we turned to commencement, that time when we commemorate the pinnacle of every student’s journey in higher education, recognize their years of hard work, and celebrate the promise of a bright future ahead. I love commencement at UTA because our student body is like no other. Mavericks contain such a unique spirit and drive, and it is always such an honor to witness and celebrate their achievements.

On a personal note, I also celebrated a milestone of my own in April: my first full year as president at UTA! I’m so proud of all we have managed to accomplish together in this time. Everywhere you turn, our Mavericks are making an impact, and it brings me such joy to support your efforts and help expand your reach.

As we enter another great year in Maverick Country, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. We have so many amazing things in the works, and I hope you’ll keep in touch with your alma mater to experience it firsthand. There are several ways to stay connected, from attending one of our campus events to simply staying in touch on social media. Remember, you can always find me on Twitter (@UTAPrezCowley) or visit my website (uta.edu/president) to share feedback.

Always and forever: Go Mavs!
