Major League Training for UTA Golfers

Texas Rangers Golf Club partnership gives UTA golf the edge

Texas Rangers Golf Club

Opened in 2019, the Texas Rangers Golf Club gives UT Arlington men’s and women’s golf teams the feeling of being in the major leagues. With practice facilities with three greens, a bunker for each, two putting greens, and a whopping 350 yards of driving range from the back of the tees, you can hit your game from several angles.

“Having Texas Rangers Golf Club as our home course has been such a great asset for our program,” says Catherine Matranga, women’s golf coach. “The short game area is one of my favorite things about Rangers. We can work on a variety of different shots around the green all the way up to wedges. This is great when preparing for a tournament because we can focus on a particular shot or area and be better prepared when we arrive at our next event.”

Casey Devoll, men’s golf coach, estimates the driving range to be 100 yards wide; he appreciates the large amount of players it can accommodate.

The course itself is 7,010 yards at a 73.7 rating and a 132 slope. Designed by John Colligan (’85 MArch, Landscape Architecture; ’79 BS, Architecture), every hole has a baseball-themed name.

“To be able to offer something of this magnitude is very attractive for those who want to step up their game in the right environment,” Devoll says. “Practice facilities like this are very rare for a public course.”

Also home to multiple UTA athletics-related fundraisers, it even boasts the Korn Ferry stop Veritex Bank Championship in April. And maybe with the help of these facilities, it’ll be a future event for UTA golfers to participate in.
