When Curvey Hawkins, Jr. director of planning for the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), accepts the 2008 Distinguished African American Alumni Award Saturday night, he will be another link in a growing chain of School of Urban and Public Affairs graduates to be so honored, so far, in this decade. Four SUPA graduates have been honored with the award since 2000, an accomplishment made even more outstanding by the fact that the school’s student body averages only about 250 students.
Past honorees are Dorothy Burton, 2006; Naomi Lede, 2004 and Arlington Police Chief Theron Bowman in 2000.The African-American Alumni Reception is held every year during Homecoming and African-American alumni come back to campus and help honor the recipients of the Outstanding African-American Award.
The 2008 Reception is held on Saturday, February 23 at 7:00 pm in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the E.H. Hereford University Center.Contact Dean Richard Cole, (817) 272-3071 for more information.
