Homerathon features a reading of 'The Odyssey'
ARLINGTON - The University Classics Club at The University of Texas at Arlington is sponsoring its annual "Homerathon," beginning with "Invocation to the Muse" at 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, on the mall of the E.H. Hereford University Center, 300 W. First St. The event is free and open to the public.
"The Odyssey" was composed in Greek around 700 B.C. The marathon recitation, mostly in English translation, will continue until 10:30 p.m., or until "child of morning, rosy-fingered Dawn" appears, according to one translation.
Readers/performers are needed, and those wishing to participate may sign up online at www.uta.edu/studentorgs/classics/homerathon. Texts in English translation will be provided, and will be available prior to the event in the office of the Philosophy and Humanities Department, 305 Carlisle Hall. Recitation in Greek and other ancient languages is encouraged.
