ARLINGTON - The Friends of the University of Texas at Arlington Library has launched its annual membership and renewal campaign. The campaign runs through October and is aimed at increasing membership and awareness of the UT Arlington Library's offerings.
"The university libraries are educational and cultural resources for the entire Metroplex community, and the Friends are dedicated to spreading this word," said Tommie Wingfield, president.
Membership dues start at $45 per year and offer a range of contribution levels, including corporate. Members are invited to attend programs, check out books at the UT Arlington Library, receive newsletters and other more. A $10 student membership opens Friends' events to UT Arlington students.
Some of the Friends' programs for the fall include: Ebby Halliday and Michael Poss discussing the new book Ebby Halliday: The First Lady of Real Estate on Sept. 11; Jeff Guinn, author of Go Down Together: The True Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde on Oct. 23; and Mike Cochran, author of The Godfather of Poker: The Doyle Brunson Story on Nov. 13.
Officers for the Friends are Tommie Wingfield, president; Greg McKinney, first vice president; Shirley Applewhite, second vice president; Richard Browning, treasurer; Linda Simmons, secretary; Julie Shelton, student representative; and Betty Clark, parliamentarian. Members of the Advisory Council are Penny Acrey, Betty Bob Buckley, Dorothy Burton, Melissa Deur, Kit Goodwin, Tom Hellier, Daniel Kauth, LaVerne Knezek, Don Kyle, Linda Myers, Robert Ressl, and Bill Stallings.
